Hello everyone! Lidenskab here! So.... how do I even begin? I started this iceberg back in late 2022 since I had (and still have) an interest in both Biology and Iceberg charts. The iceberg wasn't meant to have more than 500 entries, but somehow I added more than 3000. I had alot of free time back then XD. Now this iceberg is a port from Icebergcharts.com, which many of you know, has essentially shut down. I and 2 more people have made a full archive of the public site, which is available on the Internet archive if you're interested. Anyways, here's some text I wrote and stuff. hope you enjoy :3 "Like music and art, love of nature is a common language that can transcend political or social boundaries." —Jimmy Carter Biology. It is a subject that most people would think back and be disinterested. It is not a surprise that most people either don't care about biology or really hate biology. There is a good reason as to why that's the case. It's mainly how our education in school makes biology look bland and boring. Most people don't really want to memorize all the pairs of chromosomes or The Cell cycle for an exam. Don't get me wrong, these are all important topics in biology but the problem is that the education we have should at least inspire the "Average" person to be interested in the fascinating topics that biology has to offer. Why aren't we being taught about the many forms of arthropods? or Paleontology as a whole? Because as far as I am aware, Every person was on a Dinosaur phase when they were a child, Including me! Biology is by far the Weirdest STEM subject. Like There are fungi that mind-controls spiders, squids with a "Detachable penis", and parasitic worms which are the most horrifying thing to ever exist. I question how nobody has made a horror movie on them. Well as they say "Reality is scarier than fiction". Biology is so interesting (to me) when you look at the obscure stuff. That's why I created this iceberg. I've made it so that even a child (don't show this iceberg to children lol) could understand but also a biologist with a Masters degree can still enjoy. The text below will (hopefully) explain why I love biology: The thing that makes me love biology the most is its complexity. Everything from the largest crocodiles to the smallest Ostracods have billions of functioning cells, all working together to sustain their organism overlord, and those cells have Billions of enzymes, Mitochondria, and so on . It's not just complexity! But also the way these organisms interact with their world. Like for example: The distribution pattern of parakeets, How a colony of ants managed to survive in a Soviet-Era bunker for years, and so on. This is all biology, This is all found here in this iceberg. (btw if anyone finds a really interesting new discovery don't hesitate to propose them as entries for this iceberg :3)
