For the uninitiated, SHMUP is short for shoot em up, which is a type of game where you control a flying character like a spaceship, fairy, shrine maiden, and shoot everything that comes from the upper end or right end of the screen. This iceberg will cover games from that genre. A lot of the stuff you are going to see got Japan only console releases at best, and never left arcades at worst. With this being my favorite genre of Japanese video games, I decided to make this iceberg chart as a repository for SHMUP knowledge, and for others to contribute too.
